Frederick Mercurio

Frederick J. Mercurio, age 82, a longtime Wakefield resident died Saturday, January 7 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Boston on October 24, 1934 he was the son of the late Michael and Adelaide (Marasca) Mercurio.

Mr. Mercurio was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of Boston Trade School. He had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Mercurio had worked as a self-employed electrician before going to work in 1989 for Northrop Grumman, from where he retired in 2006. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish and the Manager of the St. Joseph Conquistadors as well as the Owner and Director of the Conquest Color Guard and Erté Productions. He was an avid fan of the Drum and Bugle Corp and Winter Color Guard. Mr. Mercurio was a member of the Wakefield Elks Lodge and past Chairman of the Board and Elk of the Year. He enjoyed baseball, spending time in North Conway and Miami Beach, but above all, loved being with his family.

He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie (DeGregorio) Mercurio. He was the loving father of Brenda Stewart and her husband Robert, Sandra Mercurio, and Michelle Mercurio, all of Wakefield. He was the brother of Mary Russo and her husband Phil of Wakefield and the late Louis, Vincent, Edward, and Robert Mercurio. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rochelle Stewart Rubino, Erica Stewart Ferrell, Michael Stewart and Carly Mercurio, as well as four great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his two dogs: Lucy and Sophia.

His Funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10am. Interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8pm.
