George S. Flanagan, 90, of Stoneham died on Tuesday, July 22 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.
Born in Lawrence on February 13, 1918, he was the son of the late Christopher J. and Susan V. (McMahon) Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1936. He also attended St. Michael's College. During World War II he served in the US Army.
Mr. Flanagan was a retired postal worker for the Lexington Post Office and had also worked at the Boston Naval Ship Yard and Simmons Mattress Co. in Medford.
Mr. Flanagan was the husband of the late Kathleen M. (Kleber) Flanagan. He is survived by his three sons, Thomas J. Flanagan and his wife Kaye of Reading, Peter A. Flanagan and his wife Vesna of Needham and Daniel J. Flanagan and his wife Elizabeth of Wellesley, his daughter, Kathleen M. Flanagan of Ohio, his sister, Marion Bolan of No. Andover, seven grandchildren, Ryan, Laurian, Corey, Sandra, Nicholas, Danny and Tim Flanagan and one great grandchild, Caitlyn Reed. He is also survived by his special friend, Celine Casey of Arlington.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Friday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Lawrence.
