George Livingstone, Jr.

George M. Livingstone, Jr. of Wakefield died on Friday, September 20 at his residence.

George was born in York, Pennsylvania on February 22, 1924 and was the son of George M. Livingstone, Sr. and Viola (Ruesskamp) Livingstone.

Mr. Livingstone's first wife, Georgianna, died in 1991. Their children are Joan White and her husband Robert of North Fort Myers, FL., the late Andrea Livingstone of Avon, Connecticut, and the late George M. Livingstone, III., and his wife Linda of Wilton, Connecticut. There are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Phil Livingstone of Davidsonville, Maryland and the late Karl Livingstone of Fremont, California.

Mr. Livingstone's wife is Hee Won (Hong). He, with his wife, traveled extensively in Europe and Asia, and made many sketches from his travels. Mostly, he took pride in the young persons that he had the opportunity to employ and begin their careers in architecture.

Mr. Livingstone was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard with the ranking of Carpenters Mate Third Class. He was a resident of Wakefield since 1948 and had been self-employed as an architect for over 50 years, designing commercial, church, college and residential facilities in the New England states.

Mr. Livingstone was an emeritus member of the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects and active member of DBUG, the Datacad computer users group of Boston. Prior to his self-employment he was employed by Boston area architects gaining experience on a wide range of building types. Mr. Livingstone was a part-time instructor in architectural history and drawing at the evening engineering school at Northeastern University for eleven years and at Wentworth Technical Institute for three years. He held an associate degree in civil and structural engineering from the Lincoln Technical Institute at Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science degree from University College at Northeastern. Mr. Livingstone studied architecture at the Boston Architecture Center in a five year program. He completed studies at Fitchburg State College extension courses and had a Massachusetts Department of Education Occupational Teachers Approval.

Mr. Livingstone served on the Wakefield Housing Authority from 1959-1966, first as an appointed member when the authority was initiated and later as an elected member, serving as a secretary and as chairman. In 1994, he was appointed by the Wakefield School Committee to the School Facilities Survey Committee. This Committee toured twelve school buildings in Wakefield to determine the necessary changes to provide proper educational environment for students and staff for the twenty first century. He was a past president of the Wakefield Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. The town of Wakefield also bestowed George on the occasion of his 95th birthday that February 22, 2019 as George Livingstone Day in Wakefield, MA.

Mr. Livingstone was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Lynnfield. He served as the architect for their recent renovations. He has been a member of the First Lutheran Church in Boston for over fifty years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Congressional president and as Chairman of the Building Committee when the church relocated to the Back Bay of Boston.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home at 19 Yale Ave. in Wakefield on Friday, September 27th from 4-7 pm. There will be a Memorial Service held at Messiah Lutheran Church at 708 Lowell Street in Lynnfield on Saturday, September 28th at 10 a.m.
