George E. Mitchell, 89, of Wakefield died on Saturday, November 8 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.
Born in Manchester, NH on May 29, 1919, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bessie A. (Boone) Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was raised and educated in Lincoln, NH. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the US Army from April 1940 to December 1945 and also served in the Korean Conflict in 1950. Mr. Mitchell was employed with Gulf Oil Corp. from December 1945 to December 1976.
He had been a Wakefield resident since 1947 and was a member of the Melrose United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge AF & AM for 50 years and a life member of the Granite State Gas & Steam Engine Association.
Mr. Mitchell loved restoring antique machinery especially early century one-cylinder engines. He also loved traveling.
Mr. Mitchell was the husband of the late Edith (Ferraro) Mitchell. He was the father of Scott Mitchell and his wife Donna of Wakefield and Virginia Holden and her husband Dudley of Southwest Harbor, ME. He was the brother of Florence Anderson of Campton, NH and is also survived by 1 grandchild. Funeral services were private. Arrangements were in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
