Gerald (Bud) J. Murphy, age 82 of Stoneham died Tuesday March 25 after a lengthy illness. 

He was born in Cambridge on May 2,1942 and was the son of the late Gerald S. and Catherine (Sullivan) Murphy. 

Raised in Central Square in Cambridge, he was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. He later went on to a long career with the Kenadall Confectionary Company of Cambridge. Mr. Murphy had been a Stoneham resident since 1978 and was a member of Saint Patrick Parish. He and his wife enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Newfound Lake when they were first married. The family vacationed in Lake George, NY for many summers.

Mr. Murphy was a true local boy, avidly following all the Boston sports teams. He enjoyed going to Revere Beach to eat at Kelly’s Roast Beef, and in his later years, sitting by Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. He also enjoyed eating out and would rate restaurants on the quality of their bread. He had a great love for cats and had many of them throughout his life.

Mr. Murphy was the beloved husband of Ann C. (Corbett) Murphy. He was the loving father of Matthew G. Muphy and Sarah E. Huesgen of Melrose, Melissa A. Murphy of Melrose and Marianne C. Steinmetz of Pembroke, NH. He was the brother of Patricia Rizzo of SC and the uncle of Lynnette Rizzo of NY. He was also the loving grandfather of Hailey A. Steinmetz.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street Stoneham on Wednesday April 2 at 10:00. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Finnegan-Anderson Funeral Home, 322 Main Street Stoneham on Tuesday April 1 from 4-6pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
