Gerald R . Howard , 83, of Wakefield died on Thursday, November 13 at his home.

Born in Malden on September 11, 1925, he was the son of the late John T. and Mary (Mahoney) Howard .

Mr. Howard was a graduate of Malden High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He had later worked for the Wakefield Municipal Light & Gas Dept. Mr. Howard had been a life member of the Wakefield Knights of Columbus and was also an active member of St. Joseph Parish, where he had been an usher for over 50 years. Gerald was a member of both the Retired Men's club of Wakefield and also St. Vincent DePaul Society. He had volunteered his time for the Mystic Valley Elders' Services and the American Red Cross for their blood drives.

Mr. Howard was the husband of the late Genevieve (Daley) Howard . He was the brother of Gertrude O'Neill of Malden, Dorothy Cronin of Medford, and the late John T. and Mary T. Howard . Gerald is also survived by 33 nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 – 5 PM.

Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
