Gertrude A . "Gertie" Sarro , 82, of Wakefield and formerly Everett, died at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Saturday April 3.

Born in Everett on June 3, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Esther (Maxfield) Forgione.

Mrs. Sarro was a life-long resident of Everett and had been a member of E.R.M.A., the Everett Retired Men's Association. She was also a former member of St. Theresa parish in Everett. She had been a member of the Saugus VFW Post 2346 and had retired from BayBank – Middlesex after many years of faithful service. Gertrude loved to travel and had gone on trips to Alaska, the Caribbean and throughout Europe.

Mrs. Sarro was the loving wife of the late Joseph W. Sarro . She was the mother of Denise Wholley and her husband Thomas of Wakefield and Joseph W. Sarro , Jr. and his wife Andrea of Everett. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Wholley and her fiancé, Michael Rivers, Scott Wholley and Andrew Sarro . Gertrude was the sister of Esther Culwell of Everett, Lillian O'Neill of Tewksbury, Katherine McCarte of FL and the late Celia Johnson, Elizabeth Monastiero and John Forgione, Jr. She also leaves her constant companion "Nicki", her cat.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.
