Gwenn E. Therrien, age 67, of Wakefield died Friday, February 16 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brave battle with cancer.
Born in St. Johnsbury, VT she was the daughter of the Doris (Cheney) Therrien and late Russell Therrien.
Gwenn was raised and educated in Cabot, VT and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of Vermont. She then became a bank examiner for the Comptroller of the Currency at the Treasury Department, and later a Loan Review Officer at the First National Bank of Boston.
When Gwenn first met her husband, the late Michael Blake, she accompanied him to Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Puerto Rico. They spent their early married years in Latin America and had many opportunities to travel extensively. Some of their favorite places were Machu Picchu in Peru, Iguazu Falls in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and various Caribbean islands.
After her husband's retirement, Gwenn and Michael enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. They also became involved in the Beebe Library, where Gwenn dedicated her time to the book fair and to help establish the Blake Gallery in memory of her late husband.
She was the beloved wife of the late Michael J. Blake. She was the loving sister of Alan Therrien and his wife Suzanne of Boxford, Dale Therrien and his wife Donna of Sheffield, VT, and Janet Decker and her husband Al of Florence. She was the sister-in-law of Robert Blake and his wife Elizabeth of CA. She was the aunt of James and Ian Blake, Heather McGinnis and her husband Gary, Tim Therrien and his wife Ginger, Michele Voner and her husband Jeff, Jack Decker, and the late Gretchen Therrien. She is also survived by six great nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, February 24 from 10:30am - 12:30pm.
