Harold Paicopolos

Harold G . Paicopolos , 91, a Woburn resident all of his life, died peacefully, on Wednesday, December 4, at the Woodbriar of Wilmington. He was the beloved husband of the late Athanasia Yanakopoulos.

Born in Stoneham on August 15, 1922 he was the son of the late George and Bella (Minonos) Paicopolos . Harold was also known to his siblings as "Bobby" and "Kibby".

He honorably served in World War II, Asiatic Pacific, from September 1942-April 1946. He served as a "First Class Petty Officer" first at the Fargo building in Boston. Followed by assignments on the USS CHANDLER (DD-206) Destroyer Minesweeper. Crewmen who served on these ships were called "Tin Can Sailors". Harold completed his navy service, as a crewmember on the USS OCEANUS (ARB-2) was one of twelve Aristaeus-class battle damage repair ships built for the United States Navy during World War II. He also served in the CCC and helped build a bridge in Vermont #210.

Returning from the war, he worked at Beggs & Cobb Inc in Winchester Mass. There he was elected to the union staff helping to make the working conditions of the leather industry safe for all employees. He also held many other jobs including a Postman for the USPS, a milkman, owned and operated his own Ice Cream Truck, a canteen driver, worked in a package store for over twenty years and his last job he worked for the Woburn Police Dept as a proud crossing guard.

He was a longtime active Board member of the Annunciation of the Virgin
Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn served as treasurer of the church.

Harold is survived by his loving children, Harold G . Paicopolos Jr. and his wife Debbie of Stoneham, Karen E. Walton and her husband Bob of Chelmsford, Ellen Meuse and her husband Bill and Paul H. Paicopolos all of Woburn.

He was the loving Papou of Bill Meuse, Jr, Melissa DeSimone and her husband Anthony, Philip Paicopolos and his finance Kelly, Alisha Martinez and her husband Oscar, Katherine Exarchos and her husband Aki, Lauren Maguire and her husband Michael, and Gabrielle McClellan and her husband Toussaint.

He was also the loving great-grandfather (Papou) of Effie and Elena Exarchos, Holly and Liam Maguire and twins Anthony and Julia DeSimone.

Brother of Janet Paleologos, Mary Vespucci, Helen King all of Woburn and Marie Manzi of Methuen. Brother of the late Rose Smithell, Peter Picopolus, Michael Paicopolos and Spiro Paicopolos . He also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main Street, Stoneham on Tuesday at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Ave., Woburn at 11o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Harold's memory to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn, MA 01801.
