Harold Samuel Holappa ("Hal"), a Lynnfield resident, died on September 10, 2011 in Bedford, MA at the Veterans' Administration Hospital
Mr. Holappa was born in Brooklyn, NY, the only son of the late Dr. Samuel and Leona Holappa. He attended Maynard High School and was graduated from the Mount Hermon Preparatory School in Northfield, MA. He later received a BS in Chemistry from Tufts University and was graduated from the University of Chicago's Advanced Management Program. He served in the US ARMY in Korea and played on the US ARMY baseball team. Mr. Holappa was emeritus member of the American Chemical Society. He also was a member the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Marketing and Economics, the American Chemical Marketing Research Association, the European CMRA, and the Adhesives and Sealants Council.
Mr. Holappa established his own consulting firm, which specialized in the global markets of adhesives, sealants and coatings. He authored 13 books and held several patents. With his sparkling personality, wit, and humor, Hal was always ready for an intellectual conversation and always had a firm opinion. He was a man so very proud of his family. Hal loved food, wine, baseball, and tennis, and traveled to 60 of world's countries. Reading, travel, sports, and cooking complemented his life.
Hal is survived by his wife, DorseyAnn; their son Harold and his wife Janice and their three children of New Canaan, CT; their daughter Dr. Lynn of Lynnfield, MA; and their daughter Joan and her husband Ruben and their two children of Redding, CT.
A memorial service will be held in Bedford, MA at the Veterans' Administration Chapel at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Arrangements are by the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield, MA (www.mcdonaldfs.com).
