Helen M. Brettell, 93, a Lynnfield resident since 1945, died on Wednesday, March 9 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Medford on June 28, 1917 she was the daughter of the late William and Rose M. (Oa�(TM)Connell) Ducey.

Mrs. Brettell was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School and Burdett College. She had worked for many years as a legal secretary for Rittenberg & Rittenberg Law Offices in Boston.

Mrs. Brettell was an original member of St. Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield and served on many town and church committees in Lynnfield during her life. She was an avid walker, and enjoyed needlepoint and gardening. She was also an avid birdwatcher.

Mrs. Brettell was the wife of the late Norman F. Brettell. She was the mother of Carol A. Halstead of Lowell, Jean E. Malcolm and her husband James of SC and Norma J. Brettell and her husband Walter Luikey of Lynnfield & Glen, NH. She was the sister of Carl Ducey of Wakefield and the late William and Francis Ducey and Rosalia Wallace. She was the grandmother of Anne Dolan, Cynthia Halstead, James Malcolm and Mark Malcolm. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10 oa�(TM)clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
