Helen M. Hafner, 90, of Wakefield formerly of Medford and E. Harwich, died on Tuesday, November 16 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House.
Born in Boston on July 17, 1920 she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Harrington) Martin.
Mrs. Hafner was a graduate of Girls Catholic High School in Malden and Salem Teachers College. During World War II she served in the U.S. Navy as a meteorologist. She was a retired elementary school teacher for the city of Medford. Mrs. Hafner was past president of St. Francis Mother's Club, a life member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the Florence Critton League for unwed mothers.
Mrs. Hafner was the wife of William A. Hafner. She was the mother of Barbara M. Quinlan of Melrose, Patricia Hafner Buker and husband Steven of Wakefield and William F. Hafner and fiance Michelle Green of Billerica. She was the sister of Marie Corsetti of Medford, Rita Deacy of N. Carolina and the late William and Francis "Buddy" Martin. She was the grandmother of John and Brian Quinlan, Erik and Franz Buker and William Hafner and the great grandmother of Troy and Cole Quinlan.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 o'clock. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
