Henry "Hank" McCarthy, DDS, 71, of Wakefield and Rockport, died Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Born in Medford on May 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Henry W. Sr. and Margaret (Lynch) McCarthy.
Dr. McCarthy spent his early years in West Roxbury and Needham and graduate from Boston College, class of 1960, and Georgetown University Dental School in 1964. He was a naval officer and served with the Naval Dental Corps in San Diego, CA. He has been a resident of Wakefield since 1966 and ran a successful dental practice in Stoneham for the past 45 years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Dr. McCarthy may also be remembered for his community service with Globe Santa Christmas, Rotary Club, Little League coaching, and religious education. He was a devoted fan of the BC Eagles and all of the Boston Sports Teams.
Dr. McCarthy was the husband of the late Dee McCarthy. He was the father of Christine McCarthy and her husband Marc Manzelli of Dunwoody, GA., Dawn McCarthy of Arlington, VA., Justin McCarthy and his wife Bonnie of Long Beach, CA., Maura McCarthy of Rockport, Tara McCarthy of Wakefield, Deidre Marshall and her husband Roger of Overland Park, KS, and Shauna McCarthy of Arlington, VA. He was the grandfather of Kash, Sean, Dylan, Brendan and Ethan. Dr. McCarthy was the brother of Margaret "Peg" Hawkins of Duxbury and Jeanne Kelch of Westchester, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Thursday at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10 o'clock. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 – 8 P.M.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Contributions, 10 Brookline Pl. West, Brookline, MA. 02445-7226 or to the VA Boston Healthcare System, Fisher House, Voluntary Services, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
Interment will be at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
