Howard J. Cassier, of Reading and formerly Wakefield and Hawaii died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Sunday January 23.
Born in Chelsea on September 12, 1917, he was the son of the late George T. and Lorenza (Finocchiaro) Cassier.
Mr. Cassier was a graduate of Chelsea High School class of 1935. Howard was a WW II Army Veteran and had served 3 years overseas in areas in England, North Africa and Italy. He had been a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Wakefield before moving to Honolulu, HI for 20 years. An avid fisherman, Mr. Cassier lived in Florida for 11 years. In all of his travels, Howard was a former member of the Elks, having belonged to the Lodges in Wakefield, Honolulu and Bradenton, FL. He had been a life member of D.A.V. as well as N.A.R.F.E. Howard had been a member of St. Marie Goretti Church.
Mr. Cassier was the husband of the late Margaret C. (Sullivan) Cassier. He was the father of James J. Cassier and his wife Elizabeth of Wakefield, Jeanne M. Smith of Tewskbury, Anne M. Cutter of FL. and the late Howard J. Cassier, Jr. He was the brother of the late Raymond Cassier, Loraine McCarthy and Ruth Cusick. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
