Hugh Metzler
Hugh C Metzler of Wakefield died suddenly on Tuesday August 14 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital. He was 57.
Hugh graduated from Melrose High School in 1974. His love of theater started very young and took him on the road first to summer stock where he gave flowers to Marlena Dietrich on the Paper Mill Theater stage in CT. Then there was dinner theater in Tampa, and even bareback riding as an Indian in Chillicothe OH for the pageant play at Tecumseh. He returned to Melrose Players and later the Quannapowitt Players (QP), branching out to many other local theaters over the years. Most recently he has been heard as a player in the Colonial Radio Theater on the Sirius air waves. Above all QP was his home. He was honored with many acting awards, as well as a Life Membership at QP for his constant dedication and willingness to do any and everything needed. It was the same for his family and friends. When he was not acting he was fortunate to work with interesting folks that he thoroughly enjoyed entertaining whether at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital, or the many years at Cambridge Brewing Company or more recently the Andover Inn.
Hugh was the beloved husband of Donna Corbett of Wakefield. He was the son of Janet (Putney) Metzler of Melrose and the late Hugh H. Metzler of Reading. He was the brother of Kenneth Metzler and his wife Karen of Peabody and the late Cheryl Metzler. He was the Uncle of Danielle and Kristie Metzler, son-in-law of Gladys Corbett, and brother-in-law of Barry Corbett both of Wakefield.
A funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday from 3-8 p.m. Interment will be private.
Donations to Quannapowitt Players 55 Hopkins Street, Reading MA 01867 are requested in lieu of flowers. Hugh will be deeply missed by his family, his friends and his audiences.
