Irene F. (McHatton) Mann-Murray, a lifelong resident of Melrose, died on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Meadowview Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Reading following an extended illness. She was 85 years old.
Irene was born in Melrose on April 12, 1924 to the late Horace and Mary A. (Silva) McHatton. She grew up in Melrose where she attended Melrose Public Schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1942. Irene worked for more than 35 years with the Melrose Election Committee. She was a member of the Shapleigh, Maine Historical Society. Irene enjoyed spending quality time with her family as much as possible along with reading and visiting her family farm in Shapleigh, Maine.
Irene is the beloved wife of 18 years to Joseph H. Murray, Jr., and the late William S. Mann. She is the devoted mother of William S. Mann, Jr., and his wife Lynne of Melrose and Sandra M. Distaso and her husband Ted of North Reading. She is the loving "Ma" to Robert W. Mann and his fiancé Catherine Hefferan of Melrose, Captain Christopher M. Distaso U.S.A.F. of North Dakota and Kevin M. Distaso of North Reading. She is the beloved sister of Robert McHatton of Maine, Shirley Crawford of Melrose, the late Eleanor Cronin, Dorothy Geyer and Ruth Gorman. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Irene's Funeral on Friday, April 9, 2010, at 9 a.m. from The McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main Street, Stoneham, followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Visiting hours for Irene will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m.
