Irene Vozella

VOZZELLA, IRENE (GIORDANI)
The former bridal fashion designer and owner of Weddings Inc. died July 3 at age 88.
Born in Lynn on November 4, 1921 as the youngest child of Carlo Giordani and Marcellina Savi, she graduated from Lynn Classical High School before attending The Modern School of Fashion Design in Boston where she specialized in the design and fabrication of custom bridal gowns. Starting with a single store in downtown Boston, she and her husband, Stanley, built their bridal business, Weddings Inc., into the largest purveyor of bridal fashions in the Boston area. Their main store on Route 1 in Saugus, signposted with a huge heart, was a local landmark.
She lived most of her life in Lynnfield, continuing to operate her business while raising three children, serving as a Girl Scout leader, and volunteering at local libraries. Since her husband's death in 2001, she had been living near Princeton, NJ with her daughter Marcelline, son-in-law John, and grandchildren Brian and Marcelline Baumann. She is also survived by daughter Valery, son-in-law Rich, and granddaughter Natalie Riemer of Dallas TX, as well as her son Stanley Vozzella of Milton MA, his wife Lynn, and children Phoebe and Spencer Torres.
She was predeceased by her brothers John, Leo, Albert, Eugenio, and Henry Giordani as well as her sisters Mary Zanni, Anne Curran, and Josephine Castignoli. She is survived by her brothers-in-law Gerald and James Vozzella and her sisters-in-law Emily Olsen, Maria Mucciaccio, and Ella Pizzano. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom knew her affectionately as "Auntie Rina."
She was a woman of great faith in the tenets of her Catholic religion which provided her with the strength to endure with great stoicism a thirty year history of disabling Parkinson's Disease. In spite of this affliction, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her family and never lost her love of life and laughter.
Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, will follow a 10AM Funeral Mass on Tuesday, July 13, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield. Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Monday, July 12, at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield MA.
Contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to The Parkinson Alliance, P.O. Box 308, Kingston, NJ 08528.
