Irving Golini passed away peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2010. He was 86. Mr. Golini was a long time resident of Wakefield, residing at his home on Nahant St for 53 years.
Born in Everett, MA, he was the son of the late Pasquale Golini and Maria Domenica (Valeri) Golini. He was the dedicated husband of Rose M. (Ferraro) with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage last October. He is the loving father of Loretta Andreottola of Reading, Pat Golini of Wakefield, Paula Tucci of Reading, Rosemarie Golini of Portsmouth, NH, and Jack Golini of Wakefield. Their spouses and ten adoring grandchildren, Lindsay, Lauren, Evan, Alexis, Michela, Nicholas, Olivia, Joseph, Maia, and Nina survive him, as do two great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. His brothers Tony, Bill, Tom, and Lee, and his sister, Anita, predeceased him.
Mr. Golini began his career at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory where he worked on the Explorer satellites that would be America's entry in the Race for Space. He later worked at NASA, where he contributed to the Apollo space program. Mr. Golini retired from his work for the US Government measuring the effects of wind shear on airplanes for the US Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks, an avid vegetable gardener, and a fixer of anything broken. He loved dancing, golf, his fig trees, his friends, jazz music, getting babies to smile, and more than anything, being with his family.
Mr. Golini was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving in New Guinea.
He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend, as a generous and good man, and as a man of science.
