of Wakefield and formerly Lynn, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Born in Holyoke on March 28, 1945, he was the son of the late
James
J
., Jr and Evelyn (Dunn)
Doherty
.
Mr.
Doherty
was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1963 and later graduated from Fisher College. He had worked for Fleet Services within their Bank of American offices. A Wakefield resident since 1981,
James
had been an active member of St. Florence Church where he served on the Parish Council and was a member of its Holy Name Society. Mr.
Doherty
had served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam era. Jim enjoyed traveling, was fascinated with American History and loved model trains; but mostly,
James
enjoyed family times, music, dancing and was proud of his Irish heritage.
Mr.
Doherty
was the beloved husband of 38 years to Lucille A. (Sacco)
Doherty
. He was the father of his cherished son
James
M.
Doherty
and his fiancé Jessica of Wilmington. He was the brother of the late Eileen Smith.
James
is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, godchildren and friends.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. A visitation period will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mystic Valley Elder Services, 300 Commercial St., #19, Malden, MA 02148, or to Home Instead Senior Care, 99 Essex St., Melrose, MA 02176
