James W. Koch, 87, of Reading, formerly of Wakefield, died on Monday, January 10 at his home.
Born in Malden on June 18, 1923 he was the son of the late August W. and Annie (Hoyles) Koch.
Mr. Koch was a graduate of Lexington High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Koch worked as a machinist for Polaroid and retired after 35 years of service. During his employment at Polaroid he had worked closely with Dr. Land, founder of Polaroid.
He moved to Wakefield in 1953 and was a resident until 1999.
Mr. Koch was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Buchanan) Koch. He was the father of Barbara Dyer and her husband Ronald of Derry, NH, Karen Hamond and her husband N. Roy of Newbury, Arlene Mockapetris and her husband John of Lee Summit, MO and Marilyn Koch and her husband Douglas Doran of Reading. He was the brother of Richard Koch of Pelham, NH and the late Pauline Woodworth and Albert Koch. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10 a.m. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.
