James A. Luz, 74 of Wakefield and formerly of Melrose died Friday November 16. Born in Somerville on August 2, 1938 the son of the late Arthur and Amelia (Correira) Luz. Mr. Luz was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He later graduated from Northeastern Univesity of Boston and also earned a Masters Degree from Anna Maria College. He was retired from the U.S. Army Military Police with the rank of Sgt. He went on to work with the Tewksbury Police Department and retired as that department's Safety Officer. Mr. Luz was also was an instructor at the Police Training Academy during his long career.
Mr. Luz is survived by his wife Ellen M. (Fitzpatrick) Luz. His son Stephen J. Luz and his wife Kimberly of Wilmington. His daughter Joan E. Luz-Holt and her husband Alan of Reading. He was the brother of Ronald Luz of Woburn, Richard Luz of NH and Robert Luz of Arlington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole, Sarah and James "Jake" Luz and Henry and Samuel Holt.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave. 19 Yale Ave. Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church 173 Albion St. Wakefield at 10:00. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home Sunday 1-4pm.
