James Travers

James E. "Jim" Travers , age 83, of Lynnfield and Sagamore Beach, died Monday October 22.

Born in Boston, MA April 26, 1935. Son of James E. and Christina (Johnson) Travers .

Jim was raised in West Roxbury and attended Boston Latin School before graduating from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Suffolk University Law School. Jim served his country in the United States Navy and had an exemplary career at General Electric Aircraft Engines, retiring in 1997.

Following retirement, Jim continued to consult with GE and briefly practiced law in Wakefield, MA. Deeply patriotic, he volunteered at the Coast Guard Museum and placed flags at the US National Cemetery in Bourne on Veterans and Memorial Days. Jim continued to serve as a volunteer teacher at Operation Bootstrap, teaching English as a second language to recent immigrants to the US and tutoring adults in pursuit of a GED.

Jim and Helen travelled extensively over their 56 years of marriage. However, their home time at Sagamore Beach was most enjoyable.

Beloved husband of Helen A. (Sullivan). Loving father of Nancy J. Connolly and husband Paul of Marshfield , James E. Travers Jr. and Rebecca of Boston and Chicago, Kevin C. Travers and wife Christine of Lynnfield, Brian P. Travers and wife Lisa of Trumbull, CT, and Jennifer A. Pires and husband Richard of Yarmouth ME. Cherished grandfather of Patrick, Matthew, Caroline, Haley, Bridget, Hannah, Kevin, Abigail, Brian Jr., Bennett, Lily, and Anna. Brother of the Late Joan ( Travers ) Blank.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield at 10am. Interment, Forest Hill Cemetery, Lynnfield. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8pm.
