Jan deMoor

Jan deMoor, of Andover, passed away on Saturday, August 20th after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He died peacefully, surrounded by those who loved him.

Jan deMoor was born in 1923 in Amsterdam, Holland. A defining event in his teens was the German occupation in his country and the several years he spent in hiding in a farm outside Amsterdam. He served 4 years in the US Air Force as a medical lab technician stationed in Japan as well as some work in support of the Korean War. After the military, he got his college degree in Pharmacy and worked for many years as a Registered Pharmacist.

Jan was passionate about soccer, which he played throughout his life and taught his children and grandchildren to play. He also enjoyed classical music, long walks, chess, art, drawing, and good food. He was an enthusiastic and very creative cook. Jan was a devoted dad, grandfather, and husband.

In 1958, he married Ruth Knight of Stoneham, MA, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his three sons, Jan, of Andover, MA, Scott of Sacramento, Ca and Mark of Malden, MA. He is also survived by his sister Greta Henry of Swampscott MA, and a brother, Hendrik deMoor, of Boston, MA. He has two much beloved grandchildren, Eric and Daniel deMoor of Andover, MA.
