Jean Hanson

Jean Moring Hanson, 83, of Wakefield, died on Wednesday October 7 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina on May 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alfonso Moring and Helen (Hester) Moring.

Mrs. Hanson was a 1944 graduate of Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she worked as a secretary for the telephone company before marrying John A. Hanson in 1950 and moving to Massachusetts, where she later worked for American Mutual. She volunteered with the Y Auxiliary and at the Dutton Adult Day Health Center.

Mrs. Hanson moved from her longtime home in Greenwood to the Boit Home in 2002 where she enjoyed the care and company of staff and residents.

Mrs. Hanson was predeceased by her husband in 1997. She was the mother of Barbara H. Sharp of Northampton; Laura H. Sweeney of Mt. Desert, Maine; Paul M. Hanson of Bradford; Richard J. Hanson of Chestnut Hill; and Jill E. Higgins of Rumson, New Jersey. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday, October 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Boit Home, 5 Bennett St., Wakefield.
