Jean Mooney

Jean (Holden) Mooney , a longtime resident of Stoneham and Wakefield, Ma, passed away on Jan. 7th, 2022. Jean celebrated her 100th birthday on July 30, 2021. She was born in Stoneham in 1921, the daughter of Amasa Albert Holden, a Wirthmore Feeds salesman, and Adelaide Bean Holden, an organist for the silent movies. Jean was a devoted daughter who lived her family's strong principles throughout her life. She enjoyed reminiscing and sharing the stories and lessons of her young days.

After graduation from Stoneham High School in 1939, Jean went to the Chandler School and then worked in Boston where she met her husband of almost 40 years, Thomas Joseph "Joe" Mooney . After his death in 1969, she settled next door to her sister, Ginny Monson, on Converse St. in Wakefield. Jean became a dedicated caretaker for all her family members who predeceased her.

Jean was a loyal and kind friend to many as well as a caring aunt to her three nephews, Dick, Bob and John Monson and their families. She had a great love for animals, especially the dogs that came into her life and the birds outside. She was able to live in her own home into her 90's when, in declining health, she decided to move to Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, NH, to be near her remaining nephew and niece, Bob and Deb Monson. She is survived by them and their family, and the family of Dick Monson, including many great-nephews and nieces and several great-grand nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Havenwood-Heritage Heights Retirement Community for their warm and wonderful care of Jean in her last five years.

A Graveside Service will be held in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, 185 Lake St., Peabody on Wednesday January 19 at 1:00 p.m. where she will be interred next to her Joe. Any condolences or remembrances can be sent to McDonald's Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA. 01880.
