Jean O'Neill, 60, of Wakefield, died Thursday July 24 at her home.
Born in Somerville on October 26, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Collum) O'Neill.
Jean was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Cambridge. She later went on to attend Boston State College and then received her Masters in Education from Boston College. Jean had taught in the Somerville and Malden school systems. She was an avid skier, golfer and kayaker and enjoyed snow shoeing.
Jean was the loving wife of John P. "Jack" Malone of Wakefield. She was the devoted mother of John W., Kathleen M., and Matthew L. Malone, all of Wakefield. She was the sister of Arthur O'Neill, Walter "Butch" O'Neill, Patsy Scott, Theresa Janetatos, Barbara Mattos and the late Peggy Conroy.
Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 am followed by a funeral mass in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dr. Phillip Saylor's Research Fund, MGH Cancer Center, c/o the Development Office, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.
