Jean B. Zarrella, age 97, of Lynnfield, formerly of Belmont, died on Thursday, January 18, at the St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham.
She was born in Brighton on July 2, 1926, and was the daughter of the late John and Christy Ann (MacDougall) Blackburn.
Jean was a woman of deep faith. She taught religious education at her church and, for almost two decades, served as a eucharistic minister. She was a world traveler, an excellent tennis player, and a lover of dogs and martinis.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Zarrella. She was the loving mother of the late Jody Wight, Christy Zarrella of Connecticut, Wendy Zarrella of Sudbury, and Elizabeth Maglio and her husband Stephen of Braintree. She was the grandmother of Joseph Wight, Brian Powers, Michelle Carpenter, Danielle Ortolani, and Christopher Powers. She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Jean was predeceased by her siblings John Blackburn, Charlie Blackburn, Margie Myles, Marion Chateauneuf, Lillian Blackburn, and Laurel O’Brien.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 Grove St., Lynnfield, on Tuesday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Donations in her memory in place of flowers can be made to Good Shepherd Community Care, 160 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459.
