Jeanne Murphy

Jeanne E . (O'Brien) Murphy , 93, formerly of Wayland Rd., Wakefield passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 17.

Born in Medford, MA, Jeanne moved to Boston when she was 5 years old. Jeanne graduated from Mission High School in 1945. Upon graduation Jeanne attended Boston Clerical School and went to work at Mass. Bonding and Insurance Company at Post Office Square, Boston, where she would meet her future husband.

In 1949, Jeanne met and married her loving husband of 70 years, James J. Murphy who was a lifelong resident of Wakefield, MA. Jeanne and Jim raised their five children here in Wakefield: The late James J. Murphy III., Michael Murphy , Jeanne Simmons. Kevin Murphy and Paul Murphy .
After retiring as a secretary from Wakefield High School, Jeanne and Jim enjoyed many trips to Florida, traveling, and spending time with all their family and grandchildren.

Jeanne is predeceased by husband James J. Murphy , Jr, and her son James J. Murphy III of Lynnfield, MA, and her sister Mary McPherson of Dorchester, MA, and her brother Thomas O'Brien of Topsfield, MA. She is survived by Kathy Murphy (wife of the late James J. III.), of Hampton NH., Michael Murphy and his wife Barbara of Marion, MA., Jeanne and her husband Brian Simmons of Beverly, MA., Kevin Murphy and his wife Ellen of Moultonborough, NH, Paul Murphy and his wife Diana of Naperville, IL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her Funeral Mass will be held in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St. Wakefield on January 6th at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service 8:30-9:30am in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield. THE FAMILY REQUEST ALL THOSE ATTENDING BE VACCINATED AND WEAR A MASK.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeanne's name to Catholic Charities, 6 Pleasant St. Suite 220, Malden, MA 02148.
