Joan Lee Mullaly of Medford passed away on April 21, 2021 at the age of 77. Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Stanton and Aleida (Crosby) Mullaly. Joan earned her B.A in English at Regis College and later went on to obtain her Master's in Education at Boston State College. Joan was a teacher in Medford for over 30 years. She taught at the Osgood, Davenport, and tutored students at Medford High School. She was also an active member of the Mass. Teachers Association, serving on the Executive Board as Treasurer. In addition to teaching, Joan cared for and loved her family. She was also an advocate for the preservation of the environment and for the humane treatment of animals.
Joan was the dear sister of June Bain and her husband Robert of Wakefield, Denise Chong and her husband Danny of Nashua, NH and the late William Mullaly and his late wife Maureen (Callahan) Mullaly of Medford. She was the loving "Auntie with the kitties" to Robin, Michael, Wendy, Christopher, Mailee, Patrick, Amy, Jonathan, and Kate. She was also the loving "Yaya" to several great nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield with and interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway Methuen, MA, 01844.
