John E. Callahan, age 91 of Stoneham, died on Saturday March 24 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center.
He was born in Medford on June 29, 1926 and was the son of the late Henry and Roseanne (O'Neil) Callahan.
John was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1944. He was a retired meat cutter for A + P grocery store in Malden and was a World War II Navy Veteran. After he retired from A + P, John worked for Stoneham Public Schools and the Stoneham Public Library.
He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Serignano) Callahan. He was the loving father of Jeanne M. Hanson and her husband Richard E. of Stoneham, John E. Callahan Jr. and wife Jeannine of Burlington, and Susan E. Serino and husband Anthony of Wakefield. John is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Wednesday morning prior to the mass from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Interment, Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
