John R. Cornwall, 76, of Wakefield and Naples, Florida died Tuesday, August 31 at the Winchester Hospital.
Born in Boston on August 28, 1934 he was the son of the late Patrick and Delia (Greene) Cornwall.
Mr. Cornwall was a graduate of Mission High School in West Roxbury, Class of 1953 and had attended Northeastern University. He retired in 1991 from the City of Boston as a Police Officer and was stationed at Headquarters and Station 1. Mr. Cornwall was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a member of the Wakefield American Legion, the Retired Boston Police Association and the Reading Wisemen's Club. Mr. Cornwall was an avid Boston sports fan.
Mr. Cornwall is survived by his wife Laura (Horne) Cornwall, his daughter Lorraine Shannon and her husband Kevin of Weymouth, his two sons; John Cornwall and his wife Cathy of Nashua, NH and Richard Cornwall and his wife Jane of Danvers and his son-in-law Mark Swidler of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cornwall was predeceased by his daughter Linda Swidler and his sister Mary Tevnan.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Saturday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church 173 Albion St, Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Wilton, NH.
