John R. "Jack" Costello, 56, of Wakefield died on Sunday, March 18 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
Born in Melrose on April 16, 1955 he was the son of Theresa (O'Leary) Costello of Wakefield and the late John J. Costello.
A lifelong Wakefield resident, he was a 1973 graduate of Wakefield High School. He served in the United States Air Force and was employed at Harley Davidson of Boston.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Janeen M. (Butler) Costello and two sons, Justin R. Costello and his wife Jenny and Andrew J. Costello all of Wakefield. He was the beloved brother to James F. Costello and his wife Kathy of Tewksbury and Paul M. Costello and his wife Sharon of Denmark, ME. He was the proud grandfather of Scotty and Tyler. He was the uncle of Katie, Dana, Lisa, and Meghan Costello, Brandon and Kevin Chapman, Shaylah (Chapman) Beaudoin, Shane Glynn and Kaitlyn Butler.
Most will remember Jack for his tireless efforts in support of the American Cancer Society's relay for Life in Wakefield. He was tri-chair of the event last year and as co-chair had been working for many months in preparation for this year's event. He had also been a member of the Wakefield Warriors Club and a Band Parent for the UMASS Marching Band.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
