John P. Dillon, 91, of Peabody formerly of Wakefield and New York, New York died on Sunday, June 24 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in New York on March 16, 1921 he was the son of the late John M. and Nora (Nolan) Dillon.
Mr. Dillon was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School in New York, Class of 1939. He had retired in 1973 as a Captain for the FDNY. Mr. Dillon had also worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Island, New York and the Department of Defense. He was a member of (NARF) National Association of Retired Federal Workers and an active member of the Retired Firefighters Officers of FDNY.
Mr. Dillon was the husband of the late Eileen M. (Cooney) Dillon. He is survived by his daughter Mary Ellen Dillon of Wakefield and his two sons; Thomas Dillon and his wife Sharon of Barrington, RI and Patrick Dillon of NY. Mr. Dillon is also survived by his four grandchildren; Meaghan Blaikie of Andover, Sam Dillon of West Roxbury and Jack and Lucas Dillon both of Barrington, RI. He was predeceased by his two sisters; Julia Magno, Mary Flynn and his brother Patrick Dillon.
A funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-8pm. Interment will be at Wood End Cemetery in Reading.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave, Boston, MA 02118 or to the Brooksby Village Scholarship Fund, 100 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
