John P. Dombeck, 90, of Melrose formerly of Wakefield died on Tuesday, March 22 at the Life Care Center in Stoneham.
Born in Wakefield on January 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Theodore and Blanche (Jenkowska) Dombeck.
Mr. Dombeck was raised and educated in Wakefield and had been a Melrose resident for 50 years. He had retired from L.B. Evans Shoe Company in Wakefield. Mr. Dombeck served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S Alaska in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. An avid golfer, at the age of 83 played 2 rounds of golf at Pine Hurst Country Club in North Carolina.
He was the husband of the late Mary L. (McIntosh) Dombeck. Mr. Dombeck is survived by his four daughters; Deborah J. Tompkins and her husband Leo of Bolton, Linda D. Galvin and her husband Peter of E. Brookfield, Carol A. Dombeck and Karen Neale and her husband Dennis all of Melrose, his three grandchildren; Lee, Dave and Christopher and his four great grandchildren; John, Faith, Leah and Logan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Leon Dombeck and his sister Beatrice Meuse.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
