John Douglas

John Forrest "Jack" Douglas, age 67, of Wakefield, died Saturday, December 10 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 18, 1949, he was the son of the late Forrest Edward and Gertrude Thelma (MacDonald) Douglas.

Jack was raised in Medford and was a graduate of St. Clements High School and later attended Bentley College. He worked in a number of vocations early in his career but for the past twenty years Jack had been a letter carrier in the town of Andover. He played baseball at Bentley and for many years afterward played in a competitive softball league with his brothers. Jack was an avid fan of the Red Sox, the Patriots, the Celtics, and any team that one of his grandkids played on. Through it all, he never agreed with a single umpire or referee's decision that went against his team. He and his wife Cheryl loved to travel, especially to their cottage on Frye Island in Sebago Lake. Above all, Jack cherished his role as "Pop Pop" to his adoring grandchildren; everything else was second to time spent with them.

He was the beloved husband of Cheryl A. (Carline/McInnis) Douglas. He was the step-father of John Reddington and his partner Brenda Wagstaff of Attleboro, Jeffrey Reddington and his wife Gina of Westford, and Shawn Reddington and his wife Kerry of No. Reading. He was the brother of Wayne, James, Kevin, Sharon, Stephen, and the late Alan Douglas. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Brady, Andrew, Samantha, Emma, and Catherine.

Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10am. Interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham. Visitation for relatives and friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm.

Memorial donations in Jack's name may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
