John Hardy

Hardy , John W . "Jack," 96, of Wakefield, formerly of Medford, passed away at home on January 31, 2018. Husband of the late Margarette (Maloney). Dear friend and companion of the late Irene Comerford. Beloved father of Ann Lapierre and her husband Bruce of Wakefield, John A. Hardy and his wife Mary of San Diego, and Elizabeth Owens and her husband Vic of Walpole. Grandfather of Christine and Mark Lapierre, Beth McCaul, Jessica McCarthy, and Meaghan, William, and Kathryn Hardy , and Shannon Smith. Also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of Alfred, Francis and George Hardy and the late Walter, Edward, Robert, William, and James Hardy , Mary O'Brien and Irene Miscavage.

Born in Boston, he grew up and attended school in Somerville. He had worked for the B&M Railroad while in high school and joined the Army when he was 21. He was a 32 year employee of the MBTA.

WWII Army Veteran, Technical Sargent. Hardy campaigned and fought at Normandy, Northern France and Germany. He was a POW and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday from 4-8 p.m. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m., with Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
