John Joyce

John F . Joyce of Stoneham died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 6, 2014.

Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Bridget and Sean Joyce .

Mr. Joyce was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Ann Maguire Joyce .

He was the brother of the late Anne McCarthy, Agnes Joyce , and Mary Bernazzani, and he is survived by his children, Marianne Liggio of Swampscott, Linda Sheehan of Reading, John S. Joyce of Salem, and Alanna Boyson of Wakefield. He was the loving grandfather of Blake and Maura Liggio, Conor and Mark Sheehan, John-Michael and Cara Joyce , and Brendan, Jonathan, and Patrick Boyson and great-grandfather of Dante and Quinn Liggio. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

John graduated from B.C. High School and later went on to attend Boston College and Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland where in 1943 he earned a BA degree in Philosophy. He served in the Navy during World War II and worked in the insurance business as an appraiser for over forty years.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Thursday at 8am followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9am. A visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment, Saint Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saint Michael's Chapel, Chelsea Soldiers' Home, 91 Crest Ave. Chelsea, MA 02150.
