It is with great sadness to announce the passing of John F. Lockhart, 71, of Wakefield who died Thursday, September 4th at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. John was born in Malden on May 18th, 1943, the son of the late Maxwell Lockhart and Evelyn (Carson) McKnight.
John, his wife and two loving children happily resided in Wakefield. John was a Wakefield firefighter and EMT, a career he cherished for 29 years. Upon his retirement in 2005, Chief Parr said "John was a very dedicated fire fighter with a big heart of gold." John, being the skilled swimmer he was, spent many years as a MDC lifeguard and served as one of the Department's first certified SCUBA divers. In 1988, John received the Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Life Saver Award. John, an avid scuba diver, was elected as both Treasurer and President of the North Shore Frogman's Association. He was active in several Wakefield social organizations, mostly notable the Knights of Columbus where he served as Treasurer and Grand Knight. John was also a member of the Wakefield Elks, Crystal Community Club and West Side Social Club. He was a devoted member of St. Florence Parish in Wakefield.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Judith A. (Fabiano) Lockhart, his son Brian Lockhart and his wife Danielle of Reading, his daughter Jennifer Roach and her husband Timothy of Danvers, and three brothers, Richard McKnight of Wareham, James McKnight of Melrose, Donald McKnight of Malden along with two sisters Marilyn Paladino of Wakefield and Gayle Stulzaft of Billerica. He was a loving and doting grandfather to Victoria and Tristan Roach.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 3pm-7pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wakefield Firefighters Relief Association, 1 Union St., Wakefield, MA 01880.
