John “Butch” Majeski, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3rd surrounded by his family at Melrose Wakefield Hospital.
Butch was born on August 20, 1940, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, one of four sons of the late Vincent and Margaret (Walsh) Majeski. He was married for 59 years to his loving wife, Susan, while living and actively participating in the community. The couple married in 1966 and made their home in Wakefield where they raised their four children. It was a busy household but Butch always found time to attend his children’s events and work on his numerous DIY projects at his house.
Butch attended St. Joseph’s School, Malden Catholic, and Boston University. He worked for Summit Printing Press for years and retired in 2000. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with family and friends, playing golf with his brothers and attending the countless events that come with 14 grandchildren. Butch was never as happy as when standing on the sidelines watching his grandkids play in their various games, no matter how far he needed to travel. Watching him learn about unfamiliar sports; lacrosse, rugby, and flag football was always a fun event while listening to him reminisce about the old baseball games at Moulton Field.
Butch was a quiet man, and during his retirement he could be found working in his garden or basement and enjoying a well-earned cigar on his front porch. Butch is survived by his wife Susan, his loving children Stephen and Laura Majeski of Topsfield MA, Kristina and Curt Weeden of Amherst NH, Karen and David Kelly of Stowe VT, and Jennifer and Frank Conway of Bedford NH. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Sean and Sarah Majeski; Christopher, Nicholas and Timothy Weeden; Jonathan, Zachary, Ben and Kylinn, Maggie, and Joshua Kelly; Nathan, Abigail and Emma Conway. Butch also leaves his brothers Leo and his wife Marie of Burlington MA and Kevin of North Reading MA, as well as many great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Butch is preceded in death by his brother Vincent Paul and Marilyn Majeski of CT and his sister-in-law Donna Majeski of Wakefield MA.
Relatives and friends are welcome to pay their respects at McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday, January 9 from 4-7pm. A mass will be held Friday, January 10 at 10am at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield, interment to follow at Forest Glade Cemetery.
