John M. O'Brien, 88, a Stoneham resident for the past 58 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 8th, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Quincy on April 2, 1928 he was the son of the late John J. and Mary (McDonough) O'Brien.
Mr. O'Brien was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1945. He served in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. He went on to graduate from Tufts University in 1953, and for the majority of his career, worked as an electrical engineer at GTE in Needham. John was an avid sailor and served as a past Commodore of the Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Wakefield.
John was the beloved husband of Lorraine (Corsetti) O'Brien. Devoted father of Mark O'Brien of Stoneham, David O'Brien and his wife Danielle and Janet Nork and her husband Sam, all of Andover. He was the adoring grandfather of Laura O'Brien and Sean and Erica Nork. He was predeceased by his siblings Mary Raux, Jane O'Brien, Redmond O'Brien, and Ellen O'Brien.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Thursday, October 13th at 8:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 9:00am. Interment to follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 12th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
