John R . O'Connor , 74 of Andover, formerly of Stoneham died Tuesday March 7, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice of Haverhill after a lengthy illness.
Born in Medford, on August 15, 1942 he was the son of the late John W. and Rose (Lodico) O'Connor .
John served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Italian American Club of Malden, and the Woburn Lodge of Elks. He was retired telephone technician. He started his career with Bell Telephone Company and continued with many of their subsidiaries; including New England telephone, AT&T, and Lucent. He eventually retired from Melon Bank. While raising his 2 sons he was very active in the Stoneham Youth Hockey program, Little League, and Babe Ruth.
John was the beloved husband of Maureen J. (Powers) O'Connor . He was the loving father of John "Jay" O'Connor and his wife Angela of Charlotte, NC and Mark E. O'Connor and his wife Mary of Hudson, NH. He was the brother of Albert O'Connor and his wife Norine of Hampstead, NH, and Elizabeth "Betty" Bossi of Manchester, NH. John is also survived by his five grandchildren Tyler Guy and wife Lauren, John , Rilie, Jessica and Jaime O'Connor .
His funeral will be held from the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham on Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 o'clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
