John E. Qualters, of Wakefield died on Sunday, October 26 at his home. He was 60 years young.
Born in Wakefield on July 10, 1948 he was the son of the late Francis and Mary (Maloney) Qualters.
John was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of '66 and was a member of the '65 League and Class B Championship basketball team. He was named co-captain in 1966 and twice named a Middlesex League all-star. In addition he was a four year member of the WHS Golf Team and twice Golf Champion. After graduation he attended UNH and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his active duty obligation and taking a weekend holiday in Woodstock, NY he embarked on a thirty year career at Verizon, much of which was spent as a field manager in various North Shore locations.
Taking advantage of early retirement, he continued private consulting in the communication field for several years until he opted to work with his wife Susan at Parker Florist, a local Business she has owned and managed since 1990.
All his life John enjoyed a sunny day at the beach, a good book, great concerts, and many trips to warm islands or European countries and shared these many joys with his wife.
He is survived by his wife Susan of thirty eight years and also his two daughters, Tracy and Terri. He was also loved by his six grandchildren, Colin, Kiera, Keegan, Cayden, Thomas and William.
A graveside service will be held at the Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell St., Wakefield on Wednesday at 11 AM.
