John F. Scrima. 81, of Reading formerly of Medford died on Saturday, January 5 at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born in Winthrop on November 6, 1937, he was the son of the late John and Adele (Guarino) Scrima.
John was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1955 and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He was a retired accounts executive for Hartz Mountain Inc., in Springfield. Mr. Scrima was a member of the American Legion Yankee Division Post 290 and the East Boston's Gentlemen's Club. He enjoyed the beach and swimming. John enjoyed traveling and spending time in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. He cherished his time with his family and all of his grandchildren at family events. John especially enjoyed taking in a summer day to enjoy the rays of the sun.
Mr. Scrima is survived by his wife Carole N. (Grieco) Scrima, his five children; Steven Scrima and his wife Francesca of Cary, IL, Carrie Ferranti and her husband Jason of Melrose, Kenneth Goggin and his wife Leslie of Londonderry, NH, Laureen Parvin and her husband Raymond of Andover and his sister Eleanor Paradis and her partner John Stephenuck of Peabody. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren; Anthony and Stephanie Scrima, Isabella, Paige and Eliza Ferranti, Victoria and Ryan Goggin, Trevor and Ashley Parvin and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 9-11am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St, in Peabody at 11:30am. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave, Waltham, MA 02451.
