John Shankhour

John A. Shankhour, 49, of Saugus formerly of Wakefield died peacefully on September 9 at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Born in Damasus, Syria on January 1, 1963, he was the son of Jameleh (Boghos) Shankhour of California and the late Aziz Shankhour.

John was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1981 and had attended Salem State College. He had been a Saugus resident for the past 18 years. John was a Corrections Officer at the Billerica House of Corrections and was a member of St. Margaret's Church in Saugus.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Shankhour is survived by his wife Lisa A. (Murphy) Shankhour, his two sons; John "JJ" Shankhour and Patrick Shankhour both of Saugus and his ten brothers and sisters; Issa Shankhour, Haneneh Wanis, Faez Shankhour and Tony Shankhour all of Wakefield, Nadia Assali of Nevada, Elaine Attalah, Gorge Shankhour, Najat Houshan, Georgette Laow and Gassan Shankhour all of California.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Thursday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St, Wakefield at 10am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shankhour Children's Fund, c/o Eastern Bank, 466 Lincoln Ave, Saugus, MA 01906
