John E. "Jack" Smith , age 89, a longtime resident of Wakefield died Thursday, March 10 at the Care One of Wilmington.
Born in Manchester, NH on January 2, 1933 he was the son of the late Gertrude I. Smith .
Jack was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1951. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and went on to attend Boston University following the war. He had been a retired technician from Draper Lab in Cambridge. Jack was a longtime member of St. Florence Church where he sang in the choir. In earlier years, he was involved with coaching little league baseball and enjoyed carpentry.
He was the beloved husband of the late Adrienne E. (Stacey) Smith . He is survived by his four sons: Christopher Smith and his wife Barbara of Chelmsford, Steven Smith and his wife Angela of Plainville, Michael Smith and his wife Carolyn of Mason, NH and Glenn Smith and his wife Tess of Sanford, ME. He was the brother of Peter Regan, Carole Regan, and Robert Regan, all of Melrose. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield on Thursday, March 17 at 10:30am. Visitation for relatives will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday, March 16 from 4-7pm. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
