John F. "Jack" Troughton, of Wakefield, passed away November 5 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.
Born in Somerville on November 14, 1925 he was the son of the late Walter and Sarah (Jones) Troughton.
Jack was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during WWII, and was stationed in Japan and the Philippines. He also received his associate's degree from Lowell Institute of Technology and had retired after a long career in engineering at both Draper Laboratories and MIT. Jack had been a Wakefield resident since 1961 and was a member of the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the North Shore Model Rail Road Club and was also a member of the Photography Club and Reading Art Association. He enjoyed sailing, as well as, playing the piano and banjo. Jack was also a longtime summer resident of Newfound Lake in New Hampshire.
He was the beloved husband of the late Betty C. (Chandler). He was the loving father of David S. Troughton and his wife Judith of Chelmsford, Janice A. Morrissey and her husband Joseph of MD, and the late Marcia J. Hicks and her surviving husband Chet of CT. He was the cherished grandfather of Jeffrey and Gregory Troughton, Andrea Johnson, Michael and Jason Morrissey, and Allison Tucker. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation for relatives and friends at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday from 9-11am followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Interment, Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
