Jonette Cauvin

Jonette Taipale Trainor Cauvin, age 75 of Eagle Harbor, Michigan and Stoneham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side, February 26, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jonette (Jo) was born October 29, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Victor and Anna Taipale. She attended Dearborn High School, the University of Michigan, and graduated from Wayne State University. She married Jerome (Jerry) Trainor in July 1966, and following the birth of their daughter Joanna, the family made its home in Troy, Michigan for many years.

Jo had a distinguished career in broadcasting, and is a recipient of the Silver Circle Award from the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences for her achievements at WTVS Channel 56. Following her work at WTVS, Jo supported cultural and community organizations through volunteer work, was an active member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and enjoyed skiing, softball, music, and spending time with her friends.
Among her many volunteer activities was her involvement with the Detroit Sports Commission, which included her participation in major events such as Grand Prix, Ryder Cup, Frozen Four, and Final Four. Jo was one of the two lead volunteers for Super Bowl XL at Ford Field in Detroit, helping to manage the thousands of volunteers needed for the event.

In August 2005, Jo married Terry Cauvin, her high school sweetheart. Jo and Terry soon relocated to Eagle Harbor.
At the time of her death, Jo was receiving treatment in Boston, yet was still active as a volunteer for the signature winter event in the Keweenaw, the Copper Dog 150. Splitting her time at her second home in Stoneham, Massachusetts, "Mom Jo" lovingly devoted her time to babysitting her granddaughters, and participated in clinical trials and public awareness for Dana Farber's pancreatic cancer program, which included appearances on the Jimmy Fund Telethon on the Boston Red Sox Radio Network.

She followed her faith and her faith followed her as a member of Lutheran Church of the Master in Troy, Shepard of the Sea in Copper Harbor, and Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge.

Jo is survived by her husband Terry Cauvin, daughter Joanna Trainor and her husband Mentar Duka of Stoneham, brother Paul Taipale and Mary Beyers of Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas, granddaughters Alexandra and Victoria Duka and many Lindblom, Taipale, and Trainor family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Anna Taipale, and first husband Jerry Trainor.

Jo will always be remembered by her family and friends for her loving, generous and caring spirit, and her sense of adventure and fun.
Visitation will be held at the McDonald-Finnegan Funeral Home, 322 Main St., Stoneham, on Sunday, March 3, from 1-5pm. The Funeral Service will be at 11am, Monday, March 4, at the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
