Joseph A . Gauvin , 84, of Wakefield died on Friday September 18 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born in Gardner on May 23, 1925 he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Mary (Roy) Gauvin .

Mr. Gauvin was raised in Gardner and Canada. He was a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1949. He was also a member of the BC Alumni Association.

Mr. Gauvin was a retired underwriter for General Accident Insurance Company and was an avid Boston College sports fan.

Mr. Gauvin was the husband of the late Marilyn T. (Flynn) Gauvin . He is survived by his son Joseph D. Gauvin and his wife Doreen of Marshfield, his daughter, Maureen J. Gauvin of Wakefield, his longtime companion, Marie Delorey of Wakefield, his brother Phillip Gauvin of Orange and his sister Violet Roberts of Templeton. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Timothy J., Joseph J. and Michael J. Gauvin and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Guavin was predeceased by his brother Joseph D. Gauvin and sister Irene Brassard.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 4pm. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 320 Haverhill St., Reading, MA 01867.
