Joseph I. Cullen, 86, of Wakefield died on Thursday, April 25 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
Born in Chelsea on September 22, 1926 he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Agnes (Irving) Cullen.
Mr. Cullen was a graduate of The Immaculate Conception High School in Revere, Class of 1944, Suffolk University and had earned his Master's Degree in Psychology from Boston University. He had retired from the Department of Youth Services as Chief Psychologist. Mr. Cullen was an Adjunct Professor at North Shore Community College. He had been a Wakefield resident for over 45 years. Mr. Cullen was a World War II Navy Veteran and was a member of the Wakefield Knights of Columbus.
He was the husband of the late Mary J. (Malone) Cullen. Mr. Cullen is survived by his son Joseph I. Cullen, Jr. and Heidi Woods of Hopkinton, his daughter Mary Jane Bucci and her husband John of Tewksbury, his five grandchildren; Joel, Jason and Joseph Bucci, Timothy Cullen and his wife Ashley (Carmody) Cullen and Megan Cullen and her fiancée Dean Grubb. He was the brother-in-law of Celine Cullen of Nashua, NH and Alfred Ferullo of Milton. Mr. Cullen is also survived by Bonnie and Jameson Woods. He was predeceased by his brother Dr. Andrew Cullen and his sister Dorothy Ferullo.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Saturday at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield prior to the mass from 9-10:30am. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
