Joseph O'Melia

Joseph J . O'Melia , age 85 died suddenly September 23. Born in Winchester on May 7, 1924 he was the son of the late Joseph J . & Genevieve (Brennan) O'Melia . Mr. O'Melia was a life long Stoneham resident. He was a graduate of Stoneham High School and later from Bunker Hill Community College.
Mr. O'Melia was a decorated W.W. II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He had been a member of the Stoneham Police Department before joining the M.D.C. Police Force from where he retired with the Rank of Lieutenant.
He will be loved and missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

He was the beloved husband of Marjorie C. (McCarthy) O'Toole – O'Melia . He was the loving stepfather of Eileen , Michael, Kevin and Thomas O'Toole, Marjorie Mahoney, Maryellen O'Toole-Abisi and the late Bill O'Toole. He was the step grandfather of 8 and great grandfather of 4. He was the brother of Robert O'Melia , Mary Esther Galpin and the late Genevieve O'Melia . He is pre-deceased by his first wife Mary C. (Smith) O'Melia . Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald –Finnegan Funeral Home 322 Main St. Stoneham on Saturday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10:00. Relatives and friend may call at the funeral home Friday 4-8 PM. Interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery.
